Is Fuel System Cleaning A Waste Of Money?

Car Care: 4 Signs The Air Conditioning Needs A Service

Air conditioning helps you stay comfortable when driving or when stuck in traffic. It keeps your car cool on hot days and helps demist the windscreen on cold days, but when it isn't working as well as it should, it can cause problems and leave you struggling to control the temperature and moisture levels in your car. To keep your air conditioning in good working order, you should have it serviced regularly. Here are 4 signs your car's air conditioning needs a service:

Condensation

There are a number of key components in your air conditioning system that play a role in the cooling process, including a condenser, compressor, evaporator and refrigerant. Hoses are used to link each part of the system, and when you have a build-up of condensation in your car, particularly around your dashboard, there is likely a blockage in one of the hoses. Condensation can impact your ability to see clearly through the glass when driving and it can lead to mildew developing on your upholstery and carpets.

Rattling Sound

If you hear a rattling sound when you turn your air conditioning on, there are a few possible causes to consider. There could be debris trapped in the system, which would also prevent sufficient air flow from being generated. Alternatively, the condenser may be worn out, in which case it will need to be replaced to ensure the system can cool effectively.

Reduced Air Flow

A leak in your air conditioning system or a faulty compressor can result in reduced air flow generation. Leaks tend to happen when rubber hoses in the system degrade due to contact with moisture. Inefficient air flow will lead to you running your air conditioning more than would typically be necessary, which will impact your fuel consumption.

Unpleasant Odour

Dirt and dust can accumulate in your air conditioning system over time, and this can lead to bacteria and excess moisture building up in the system. If you detect an unpleasant mildew smell when you turn your air conditioning on, it's time to have the system cleaned out. You don't want to be breathing in bacteria or mould particles.

If you've noticed your car's air conditioning system isn't performing as well as it should, schedule an auto AC service with your local garage. The service can be carried out while you wait, and keeping your air conditioning system in good working order can prevent you from having to pay for costly repairs due to preventable damage.
